Roleystone School of Violin Making

Joel Sheard is a violin and bow maker living in Perth, Western Australia offering interested people to spend a whole day each month doing violin making. Check upcoming dates and news on facebook.
The Roleystone School of Violin Making (RSVM) is open to anyone wanting to make a violin, viola or cello. Classes are currently run on the second Saturday of each month from 9:30AM until 4:00PM. Please bring your own lunch. Tools and tuition will be provided.
The cost per Saturday is $80, payable on the day. This does not include materials (which you can buy at the workshop as you need them).
No woodworking experience is necessary. This is not a fast way to end up with an instrument but it is a wonderful and social way to spend one day each month for the duration of the project – likely to be between 1 and 3 years depending on whether you choose to take work home, etc. It is also very surprising how nice sounding a student’s first instrument often is (even compared to instruments of a similar monetary cost).
Two people can choose to work together on one project and only pay $80 in total for each workshop session.
Students may also attend the workshop during the week (by arrangement) to work on their project and receive help as needed. This is charged at $25 per hour.
